A Quiet Kind Of Thunder By Sara Barnard

Absolutely loved this book 5/5 stars!!!!! The characters were all so well thought out and developed that I have formed a serious attachment to them.
I don't often read contemporary YA because I find it predictable which can make books of this genre largely boring to me. However, this book did not bore me at all and I could not put it down. it does have predictable elements to the plot but this in no way takes away from the overall story.
I am not deaf but I do have experience with anxiety and I would say that it is a good representation of the condition. As the novel clearly shows that it's not something that can be cured rather something that you learn to live and deal with.

“Panic attacks are a lot like being drunk in some ways, you lose self-control. You cry for seemingly no reason. You deal with the hangover long into the next day.”

Just wanted to say that I not only love the content of the book but I also love the gold and pink cover art. In the inside cover and the inside back cover, there is the BSL alphabet and numbers from 0-10 which I thought was a really charming and unusual thing to include.
I found this book truly enchanting and I would recommend it to any contemporary lover or anyone who wants a more diverse book to read about mental health issues and being deaf. This book has definitely left me thinking that I will pick up Sara's other book 'Beautiful Broken things' in the future if it is written in the same style.
