As this is a new blog I thought that I would include a post
about what is on my TBR shelf to give you a sense of what I like to read. I
will link the Goodreads pages of all the books in this post at the bottom.
Enjoy and Happy Reading, Mizza xx

- 'King's Cage' By Victoria Aveyard: This is the third book in the Red Queen series and begins just after the second book 'Glass Sword' has ended. As this is the third book in the series I will not include a description here because it will spoil anyone who has not yet read the series but I will include a description of Red Queen the first book in the series. In the world of Red queen if you have red blood you are a commoner who is ruled by the silver blooded elite. Hence the terms Reds and Silvers. The Silvers have acquired their position through the powers that come with having silver blood. The main character, Mare Barrow, is a 17-year-old Red from a poverty filled area called the Stilts and there are only a few choices of what she can do with her life. Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace serving the people she hates the most but she discovers that she has the powers of a Silver despite her Red blood. The Silvers then attempt to hide Mare's Red blood and announce she is a long lost princess and what follows means that any misstep could result in not only the death of Mare but the death of those closest to her. This book is full of court intrigue and I found the ending had high shock factor. But as a piece of advice, if you decide to read this book I would try not get too attached to the characters.
- 'Ink' By Alice Broadway: This is the first book in The Skin Books series and follows the story of Leora. In this series, everything you have ever done is tattooed on your skin forever starting with your name. So when Leora's father dies his tattoos are removed and made into a Skin Book to stand as a record of his life for others to remember him by. But Leora discovers that her father's ink has been edited and his book is incomplete so she sets off to uncover the secrets of her father's skin book.
- 'Dorothy Must Die' By Daniele Paige: This book is not a retelling of The wizard of Oz but rather an inverted version of it. This book centers around a girl named Amy Gumm who is taken to Oz by a tornado and then is recruited into the revolutionary order of the Wicked where she is tasked with killing Dorothy as Dorothy has become corrupt in some way. Basically all the character that were 'good' in the original Wizard of Oz are the 'bad' and the characters who were 'bad' in 'The Wizard of Oz' are 'good'
- 'The Hawkweed Prophecy' Irena Brignull: This is the first book in a new series about two friends named Poppy Hooper and Ember Hawkweed. Poppy is a troubled teen who is constantly moving and never making any lasting friends. Ember is a young which who is struggling to determine where her place is in her coven. Poppy and Ember inevitably meet and become friends but they later find out that they have been switched at birth by the witch Rave Hawkweed. The novel follows the girls as they discover what they really are and as they befriend a homeless boy named Leo.
- 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' By Sarah J Maas: When 19 year old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods a beast-like creature arrives and demands revenge. Feyre is then dragged into a magical land that she ha only heard about in legends. Feyre then discovers that her captor is not infact a beast but a man named Tamlin. An immortal fairy who once ruled. Feyre continues to dwell on the estate and at the same time her feelings for Tamlin grows. But a shadow grows in strength over the lands and Feyre must find a way to stop it or else doom Tamlin and his world. This book is a re-telling of the classic beauty and the beast story. I'm hoping to read it before the movie is released in the UK but I am slightly afraid of this series as the following books are not only quite long but I have been told that you cont stop reading them once you start.
- 'Paper Towns' By John Green: Quentin Jacobsen ( Q ) has spent most of his life crushing on Margo Roth. So when she comes through his window one night asking him to join her in her revenge plan she has to say yes. Q arrives at school the next day to discover Margo has gone missing. Q soon learns that Margo has left clues and he feels that he has to go after her.
- 'Frankenstein' By Mary Shelly: This classic Gothic tale tells the story of science student Victor Frankenstein, who was obsessed with finding the cause of life and bringing the dead back to life. So Victor creates a human being from body parts but when he does succeed he is horrified by what he has created so he rejects the creature. This rejection triggers the monster to commit horrific acts.
