Crooked kingdom by Leigh Bardougo

Star Rating: 5/5 Stars

This book had so many twists and turns which meant that you really have to focus on what each of the characters was doing.
The multiple perspectives were a bit confusing in places but when the plan was finally revealed you got to see all the intricate pieces that were used to create it. All the heist sequences were well thought out and there is a high amount of action throughout which keeps you hooked. Although there are romances in this novel they are not the main focus which I found so refreshing as sometimes characters can get swept up in the romance and change the plot completely. This did not happen in this book at all.
The writing style of this book is not very descriptive so you have to keep all the locations clearly in your mind but the dialogue and thought patterns of all the characters are written so intricately that you get to know them all individually throughout both books rather than their personalities being constructed based on their function in the group.
In this book none of the characters are heroes but you can't help but root for them as their flaws make them relatable.
This is defiantly a series I would recommend to anyone who likes high fantasy and action or anyone who loves books like 'The Red Queen' or 'The Queen of the Tearling' as it has badass characters with political intrigue.
Note: As I was reading this I was listening to music and I thought the song 'The Phoenix' by Fall Out Boy really suited the book.
Happy Reading,
Mizza xx
