2/5 stars
This is definitely not the best John Green book that I have read as I found that the characters lacked development and they were also quite whiny.
The main character Q got on my nerves a lot as he seemed to have a complete disregard for his friends for the majority of the novel and was only concerned with finding Margo.
The book had the usual humor that I would expect from a John Green book. Humour tended to come from Q's best friend Ben, which is one of the reasons he is my favorite character. I thought the relationship between Ben and Lacey worked really well even though the development of their relationship was not shown much what was written about their relationship was sweet and didn't seem to be rushed.
I found the plot quite predictable although the use of Margo's clues did stop the plot being completely predictable. Overall the clues were used well as the various interpretations are explored as it went on, however, this did get tedious towards the end.
An aspect of the book I did like was the road trip sequence toward the end as it was full of humor and was fast paced. This last section was the most enjoyable and easy to read in the book by far.
The ending was what I had expected but I had begun to hope that for all Q's pining after Margo they would at least have a brief relationship even though I understood that Q only loved an image of Margo rather than loving Margo for her personality.
My currently I am re-reading 'Glass Sword' By Victoria Aveyard and I have already re-read the first book in the series 'Red Queen' so please let me know below if you would be interested in a review of the entire series so far including 'King's Cage' once I have finished.
