Please Note: As this is the third book in the series I have made my review vague as I did not want to spoil the first two books for you.
Star Rating: 4/5 stars
The beginning was a bit slow but once it got into the plot further it really hooked me in and I couldn't put it down. The action sequences throughout were really high quality and were fast pace yet clear.
In contrast to the first two books, this book has multiple points of view. But this in no way took away from the plot as at the time I found the other perspectives a relief from the drudgery of some of the chapters from the main character.
I loved having Evangeline's perspective in the later parts of the book as it gave a really nice contrast to the other points of view.
All the decisions that the character's made in this book were completely understandable and I thought it really helped to develop the characters by making each of them have such a clear thought pattern. I did become slightly frustrated with myself in certain sections of the book as I found myself sympathizing with a character who I wasn't fond of in the first two books and disliking some of the characters that I had liked in the first two books. So if this book is anything to go on the later books in this series are going to play with your emotions.
If you have read other reviews on this series you may have heard that this book is full of the usual YA tropes, for example, the love triangle. I will not deny that the book has these tropes which make some of the characters plot lines slightly predictable however I would not say that they are used so excessively that it takes away from your experience of reading the book.
Just like the first and second books in the series this book does end on a well-crafted cliffhanger. Especially in the first book, I did not see the plot twist at the end coming which was the main reason that I continued to read the series. Whilst I did predict the ending of the book I was also hoping what I had predicted was not going to happen so it still hit me emotionally. This cliffhanger left me oddly conflicted as I felt a sense of dread of what will become of Cal in the next book.
Quote from the Book: "Never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams."
