I initially read the first two books in the 'Vampire Academy' series a few years ago and I found that there was something lacking in the plot of the second book for me so I decided to leave them for a while. Initially, I had thought that I would re-read the first two books but I decided that I wanted to get to other books on my TBR (to be read) pile so I found a really good plot summaries for the first two books (will leave links at the bottom).
The book was quite slow at the beginning to get to the plot line of 'Shadow Kiss' as Mead mainly focused on character development based on the traumatic events at the end of book two (sorry I can't say more than that I don't want to spoil anyone).
The action sequences of the book were up to the same high-quality lyrical quality that I enjoyed in the first two books. The only difference in the action sequences in this book was that the narration really showed Rose's growing maturity and confidence as she uses a lot more technical language. In the first book I was hesitant to say that she would be able to become a good guardian but after this book, I am a firm believer that Rose has what it takes to become a guardian now.
I really liked how Mead showed the relationships between all the characters changing through the experiences that the characters went through. It showed the characters maturing in a natural way that was really great to see.
My predictions for the next few books are that Rose will find what she has gone looking for at the end of the book. But I'm pretty sure that in the process of looking for a certain thing that I cannot disclose due to spoilers she is going to meet some of the characters that will wither be crucial later on or needed for Mead's other series set in the same world called the 'Bloodlines' series. I know that I have really missed the boat on this series as it came out a long time ago but please do not spoil me if you have read the series before.
